Haiti is quite simply the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere – a country where 70% of seven million inhabitants live on much less than a dollar a day. With extremely limited access to clean drinking water – and where over 30% of all children born don’t make it to the age of five years – it is also a land of visible instability and violence. Recently shattered by an unimaginable earthquake and its devastating, chaotic aftermath, Haiti needs our help in beginning
its long road to recovery.

Arcas Group Chairman, Mukesh Kapila, had heard first hand about the chaos and need required in the grief-stricken country through longtime friend, Steve Clarke, and his wife, Dr. Tiffany Keenan.

In 2007, Dr. Keenan, a Canadian Emergency Physician, founded Haiti Village Health – a dedicated group of medical professionals who all share a love of Haiti and a belief that access to health care & medicine is the right of everyone.

Haiti Village Health is dedicated to the provision of front line medical care, health education and nutritional support in places where no such services have ever existed.

“Dr. Keenan has done considerable volunteer work in Haiti over the past 5+ years”, noted Mukesh. “They have set up several medical clinics that provide basic needs such as civil works and clean water supplies. I am awestruck by their level of commitment and sacrifice. Their non-denominational charity is quite modest, but most importantly, one hundred percent of all donated dollars to their organization goes directly to the community. Arcas knows the importance of this first hand, through our experience of working with the many not-for-profit organizations across Canada that we have as clients.”

The management and staff at the Arcas Group ask you to visit the links below to learn more about Dr. Keenan & her work, and as well to consider donating to Haiti Village Health. Simply click on the ‘donate’ button once on the donate page.

Also included as links are the award-winning National Film Board documentary on Dr. Keenan’s work, ‘Narrating Haiti’ – directed by Monica Kidd – and Arcas Chief Creative Officer Mike Woroniak’s Haiti blogsite which features Haiti Donation Facebook ad images for posting as profile pictures to help spread awareness through the powerful social media medium.

An inspiring and historical profile, Birth of a Boom recalls the stories of individuals and families who came to the province and worked hard in creating better lives for their families and communities over the generations.

“Despite popular misconceptions, this province has always had its share of entrepreneurs,” says Prairie Centre President and Arcas Group Chief Research & Strategy Officer, Dean Gagne . “I believe Birth of a Boom will help to continue to change perceptions and help inspire young people to stay in Saskatchewan. That’s why Prairie Centre will be donating copies of the book to every high school library in the province.”

The book features a foreword written by Dragon’s Den TV celebrity and Saskatchewan entrepreneur, W. Brett Wilson. The Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Saskatchewan has come onboard as a partner in the book, including it on its supplemental text list for all students in its program.
